Pevonia Australia - ENLARGED PORE- Truths and Common Misconceptions

The TRUTH will set you free

If you’ve been wondering…

  1. Yes, POREXIA is a thing!
  2. There are two types of pores.
  3. Having pores is healthy and essential.
  4. UV rays can make them look larger.
  5. Hormones can also make them look larger.
  6. Enlarged pores come with age.
  7. Over-washing your face makes them bigger.
  8. Men have larger pores.

Many of us are obsessed with our pore size and if we’re given a chance to make them smaller, we would! Some of us are even more worried about our pores than our wrinkles.

Oil pores are hair follicles that contain sebaceous glands. These produce sebum (oil) that causes our pimples. Sweat glands are very small and don’t cause irritation. Both are very important to our health. Sweat pores are our body’s breathing holes, transporting unwanted substances out of the body. Oil pores are needed for hair to grow and hair is needed to protect skin.

The average adult has about 20,000 pores on their face.

When pores become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, blackhead and whiteheads may form. When bacteria comes in contact with these two, a pimple is born!

Ultraviolet rays weaken collagen and without collagen, our pores become less tight. Decreased elasticity causes them to enlarge.

When hormones spike during OVULATION, our pores enlarge and will shrink again when hormone levels decrease. Hormonal shift during PREGNANCY and MENOPAUSE also do the same. So yes, mood swings and pores are related. Try to relax during these trying times.

As we age, our body produces less Elastin and Collagen and without these two, our skin sag and our pores become enlarged. This is something inevitable but can be managed. WE WILL REVEAL OUR NEW SOLUTION LATER IN THIS ARTICLE.

Wash your face twice a day – morning and evening. Washing too often can dry the skin leaving more dead skin cells on the surface.

Men have larger pores than women. Because men are naturally more active, their oil glands produce more oil and so their pores appear more visible.

The Pore MYTHology

  1. Blackhead is dirt.
  2. You can close pores.
  3. Toothpaste can tighten pores, just like how it solves acne problems.

Blackhead is oxidized oil, not dirt. Sebum is usually white. There may sometimes be dirt but blackhead is mostly oil.

Pores dilate and can change from wide to narrow but you can’t totally close them. You can only TIGHTEN them.

Never put toothpaste on your face. Toothpaste doesn’t cure acne and it certainly doesn’t clean and tighten pores. It will only cause irritation. Use proper skincare products that address your skin concerns.

How to Minimize and Unclog Pores

Enlarged, clogged pores are at the root of many common skin complaints including acne, blackheads, dullness and even ageing. Sometimes celebrity’s skin is so good we find it hard to believe they have pores at all! But the truth is, they are just pros at maintaining their skin and you can be too.

We must remember that pores themselves are not to blame. The pore is only the opening of the hair follicle onto the surface of the skin. Unfortunately, it is not just hair that protruds through these tiny holes, sebum (oil) does too and the environment, physiological factors and neglecting the skin can all lead to pores blocking, enlarging and becoming more visible. But there are many ways you can help unclog your pores and discover your best skin ever…

Three Step
The essential three-step routine (cleanser, lotion, cream) performed morning and night will go a long way to keep clogged pores at bay. Make sure you’ve got the right products for your skin type and make this three-step a twice daily routine.

Use a Gentle Exfoliator twice a week to prevent dead skin cells, dirt and debris building up and clogging pores.
Using a soft, moist face towel to remove your everyday cleanser also offers a gentle exfoliation every day and ensures all your makeup and cleanser is completely removed.

Heat Things Up
Steam is your best friend, it helps open the pores and draw out any impurities. At home you can do this by boiling some water and pouring it in a bowl. Put your face over the bowl with a towel over your head to trap the steam and allow it to work its magic for five to ten minutes. Cleanse or, better yet, use a face mask afterwards to wash away any dirt, oil and debris that has been drawn out.

Use a Mask
Invest in a face mask that is right for your skin type and try to use it once to twice a week depending on how your skin is feeling. The right mask will help purify your skin and will work deeper into the pores than a cleanser can.

Get a Treatment
Head to your nearest Pevonia Spa and have a consultation with your beauty therapist before your facial. You’ll find most treatments, no matter what their function, will leave you with tighter, more refined pores. Our Arominerale Signature Ritual treatment uses a mask with steam to work deeper into the skin.

Never Treat Your Face like a Mine
Don’t spend hours examining your skin in a magnified beauty mirror squeezing at your blackheads. This is only going to lead to ruptures beneath the skin that can send lead to acne flare ups. Only trust skin specialists to perform extractions.

Use Pore Correcting Primer
Using primer has a multitude of benefits and if you choose the right one, one of those benefits may well be reduced pore size.
ELES Mineral Makeup’s Pore Perfecting Face Primer absorbs oil and reduces pore size. While you wear it, Salicylic Acid levels out roughness and keeps foundation looking smooth, hour after hour. It really is a wonder product.

Invest High Quality Sun Protection
Collagen is depleted and pores made larger with excessive sun exposure. It is a little bit of a catch-22 though because some sunscreens are too harsh for the face and can cause breakouts. Our Hydrating Sunscreen is enriched with Vitamins E, C, and B but still has an SPF 30 safeguard.

Our Enzymo-Sphérides Peeling Cream offers encapsulated enzymes in micro-sphérides for maximum activity upon contact with your skin. Pineapple and Papaya enzymes eliminate impurities, blackheads, dead cells, sebum, and toxins as you work this cream into your skin and gain a bright, smooth complexion. Get it here
