The Why, How and Which of Face Masks for Your Skin Type

Most of us have a daily skin care routine that we don’t stray from but there are a few weekly or twice weekly extras that can take your skin from good to glowing perfection in very little time. One of those is a face mask.

These little beauties are easy to use, have multiple benefits and help skin stay flawless between spa visits but there are still so many people out there who neglect them completely! Here’s the why, how and what of face masks to get you started…

WHY use a Face Mask?
Day-to-day cleansing and regular exfoliation will help to keep your skin in good condition but a face mask penetrates deeper into the pores, drawing out impurities from beneath the top layers of the skin. By removing impurities, unclogging the pores and providing a deeper clean, a mask can also enhance the performance of the products you use day-to-day.
Regular facials at a salon or spa will dramatically improve the appearance of your skin but if you can only afford, or only have time for, a professional treatment every so often, a face mask will help maintain your skin between visits.

HOW to use a Face Mask?
To some degree, the how of face masks depends on the mask you’re using. Generally speaking, a mask should be applied after cleansing and toning. Apply a thin layer to the face and neck, avoiding the sensitive eye area, and leave on for ten minutes. Rinse the face with cool water and follow with lotion and cream.
This cleansing ritual will take less than a half hour total but it will do your skin wonders. Not only that, but it gives you a chance to take a little ‘me’ time without having to go out. Both you and your skin will feel relaxed and rejuvenated.
